2,523 students graduate from UPR-Río Piedras

Students poised to graduate gathered on Thursday at the José Miguel Agrelot Coliseum in Hato Rey for the 117th awarding of degrees for the University of Puerto Rico (UPR) Río Piedras Campus, in what represented a long-awaited return to an in-person ceremony.
On this occasion, some 2,523 university students attended the event that formalized the culmination of their various academic degrees. In total, 136 doctorates, 484 master’s degrees, 1,751 bachelor’s degrees, 147 Juris Doctors and five postgraduate certificates were awarded.
The department with the most candidates for graduation was Social Sciences, with 535. It was followed by Natural Sciences with 485, Business Administration with 397 and Humanities with 375. Education had 290 graduates, the Law School 164, Communication and Information 137, the School of Architecture 90, the Graduate School of Planning 23, and General Studies 27.
In this particular awarding of degrees, for the first time in the UPR’s history, 12 students – 8 men and 4 women – graduated from the University Studies for Confined Persons program under the General Studies Department.
The distribution of honors was reflected in 93 Summa Cum Laude, 919 Magna Cum Laude, and 277 Cum Laude.
Sixty-two percent of the Class of 2022 was female, 38 percent male.
