Some 150 soldiers from the 471st Engineering Unit of the Caribbean Geographical Command of the United States Army Reserve left Puerto Rico early Monday for a mobilization station in Texas before heading to the Middle East.
The Puerto Rican troops will be conducting engineering operations around different theaters in the Middle East such as reconstruction, paving and improvements to structures.
Soldiers have been preparing for the mobilization for more than a year and have specialized training. They were recently put into practice in June and July at Fort Hunter Ligget in California, during arduous military training that simulated the weather and mission in the Middle East.
