Body of flash flood victim recovered in Peñuelas creek

Personnel from the Bureau of Emergency and Disaster Management (NMEAD by its Spanish initials) reported Sunday that they found the body of one of the women who had been reported missing in La Soplaera Creek in Peñuelas.
Authorities reported that rescuers proceeded to recover the body while the search for a second woman continued.
The search for two women, ages 23 and 30, had resumed Sunday morning, as members of the Urban Search and Rescue Group and divers from the Municipal Emergency Management Office (OMME by its Spanish initials) of Arecibo continued to work along with personnel of NMEAD, OMMEs of Peñuelas, Ponce and Juana Díaz, and the Puerto Rico Fire Department, Medical Emergency Corps and Police Bureau.
On Saturday authorities announced that several people had been dragged down by a flash flood in La Soplaera Creek. Several of the people were rescued.
According to authorities, one of the people rescued reported that he was with six friends in the place when the creek’s waters rose suddenly and swept away three individuals.
Four individuals who were stranded on a rock in the middle of the stream were rescued, as was a man who was taken out of the creek. Some of those rescued are vacationing in Puerto Rico.
