Brujos de Guayama shortstop Edison Mora has been selected as the Rookie of the Year for the 2024 season of the Double A Superior Baseball League.
Mora, 23, obtained the majority support of sports journalists, who gave him 41 votes.
He dedicated his achievement to his family.
“Winning this award is a phenomenal achievement for me and my family. I went with every intention to win it and thank God, I did it,” Mora said. “I dedicate this season to my family because it was for them that I played. They motivated me unconditionally.”
In his first season, Mora hit .370 with 30 hits in 81 at-bats, including three doubles, two home runs and a triple. Additionally, he scored 18 runs and drove in 14, playing a crucial role in Guayama qualifying for the postseason for the first time since 2017.
Mora was acquired by the Brujos in the 2024 New Entry Draw. “Playing Double A is something else,” he said. “Having played in the United States and coming to play here, you can feel the difference in the atmosphere with the fans. It is a competitive league with professionals and many young players now entering. Always grateful to Guayama and its fans for giving me the opportunity to grow and represent them on and off the field.”
