A judge on Tuesday ruled against a request for a change of venue for suspended Ponce Mayor Luis Manuel Irizarry Pabón, who is accused of violating government ethics laws.
Judge Rubén Serrano Santiago of the Ponce District Court turned down the request made by Irizarry’s lawyer José Andrew Fuentes.
Fuentes also requested a reasoned brief from the court, so he has the possibility of requesting reconsideration or going to the Court of Appeals.
Serrano Santiago set a hearing on the status of the video conference proceedings for Feb. 1 at 1:30 p.m. A date will then be set for the start of the preview.
Irizarry Pabón faces charges of violation of government ethics law and unjustified enrichment.
