University of Puerto Rico (UPR) Interim President Dr. Mayra Olavarría Cruz announced Sunday that the university system will resume classes at its campuses on Tuesday because of the passage of Tropical Storm Grace.
“We have made the decision to declare an academic recess in the university system until Tuesday, August 17, considering the safety and protection of the thousands of students who started classes, or start classes tomorrow, Monday,” Olavarría Cruz in a written statement. “Classes will resume on Tuesday in their various modalities, face-to-face, online, distance and hybrid.”
“Our priority is the students, so we are being proactive to avoid them having to [leave] their lodgings, when the authorities anticipate rain and winds, mainly in the southwest region [of the island],” she said.
However, the official noted that starting at noon today, employees of the university system must report to work, “unless a particular situation prevents it.”
