Dangerously hot conditions to continue today

By The Star Staff

The National Weather Service (NWS) is forecasting the continuation of an Excessive Heat Watch for Wednesday in which dangerously hot conditions are possible for coastal and low-lying municipalities.

The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will create a dangerous situation in which heat illnesses are more likely to occur.

“Remember: Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors,” the NWS said. “Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Car interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes. Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.”

The Excessive Heat Watch will be in effect in the lower elevations of the island but will exclude the mountain municipalities.

The temperature at Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport in Carolina early Tuesday afternoon was 91 degrees with partly cloudy conditions.
