DCR launches collaborative training programs for inmates

The objective of the training program is to offer job training opportunities to prisoners as part of their rehabilitation process.

Designated Correction and Rehabilitation (DCR) Secretary Francisco Antonio Quiñones Rivera announced on Wednesday the beginning of a new phase of the agency’s Adult Education Program, in collaboration with the Department of Education, the Local Labor Development Board of the Municipality of Bayamón, and the company Alonso Sobrino.

“This is the beginning of several projects planned under the collaborative agreement between the Department of Education’s Adult Education Program and the country’s Local Workforce Development Boards to train the correctional population,” Quiñones Rivera said in a written statement. “The programs that were announced consist of Basic and Advanced Sewing at the Bayamón 501 Institution, and upon completion of the course, students will receive a financial stipend from the Bayamón Labor Connection.”

The designated DCR secretary emphasized that the objective of the program is to offer job training opportunities to prisoners as part of their rehabilitation process.

“Our mission is to provide a dignified environment where they can rehabilitate themselves while their well-being is taken care of, together with colleagues who work in the department for the rehabilitation of each of the people in state custody,” Quiñones Rivera said.
