Dozens of positive cases detected in DS ‘Testathon’ event

Health Secretary Carlos Mellado López announced on Sunday that dozens of positive cases for COVID-19 had been detected in the Pruebatón event.


“The monitoring and surveillance team of @desaludpr has carried out some 400 tests, of which 70 have been positive,” the Health secretary said on his Twitter account. “We have over 3,000 tests available in San Juan. The staff is giving their all to serve the citizenry. I ask for calm and patience [while waiting] in line.”


In the event, which took place Sunday on the premises of the Department of Health in Río Piedras, an average of 700 tests were carried out per hour, in the shuttle mode. From the early hours of the morning, thousands of people began lining up to be tested for COVID-19.


Positivity rate at 21.74%, with 1,840 new cases confirmed


The Department of Health’s COVID-19 report Sunday reported more than 1,840 confirmed positive cases and no deaths.


In addition, 2,608 probable cases were reported.


The monitoring covers the period from Dec. 10 to Dec. 24, 2021.


The positivity rate stood at 21.74 percent.


As of the issuance of the report on Sunday, 124 adults and 37 minors were hospitalized.


Upwards of 2,749,291 people had received one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, while 2,454,193 people had completed two doses.


Total attributed deaths was 3,291.
