Acting Transportation and Public Works (DTOP) Secretary Luis González Rosario signed Resolution 2021-032 on Thursday to extend the period for renewing driver’s licenses in all categories, identification cards, permits in the form of a removable placard to park in designated areas for people with disabilities, and motor vehicle window tint exemption permits.
“As a result of this global pandemic situation and to establish remedies for the risk of infection both in the workforce and in our citizens, it is necessary to proceed with this measure,” González Rosario said in a written statement. “This resolution was signed in order to prevent the direct services offered by the Puerto Rico Department of Transportation and Public Works to our citizens from being affected by the increase in the spread of COVID-19 and its effects on health, government services and the economy, and in order to prevent and control the spread of this virus.”
The resolution establishes that, for terms of validity whose expiration date is in December 2021, the renewal period will extend until March 31, 2022.
Meanwhile, terms of validity whose expiration date is in January 2022 will be extended until April 30, 2022.
