Electronic tax return centers now open in 5 locations

By The Star Staff

Acting Treasury Secretary Nelson Pérez Méndez announced earlier this week the opening of five Centers for the Preparation and Filing of Electronic Tax Returns, with locations in several municipalities around the island.

The centers, which commenced operations on Thursday, provide free assistance to salaried taxpayers and pensioners who require it. In addition to help with electronic tax returns, the centers will also provide free assistance with the Additional Child Tax Credit, or CTC, Pérez Méndez noted.

“As in past years, the Centers will serve taxpayers through coordinated appointments through https://hacienda.turnospr.com, link Return Preparation Centers,” the official said. “This appointment system has proven to be very effective because, in addition to avoiding crowding, it helps taxpayers organize their schedules and control the time they are going to invest in management.”

The centers will also continue to work with the Internal Revenue Service and its Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program to assist eligible citizens in applying for the CTC by filing IRS Form 1040-SS, subject to the established requirements.

The centers will be located in the following municipalities:

* Caguas: Mayor’s Office, Wilnelia Merced Forsyth Hall

* Carolina: Plaza Carolina Mall, 2nd Floor

* Mayagüez: Mayagüez Town Center, 2nd Floor

* Ponce: Plaza Del Caribe, 2nd Floor

* San Juan: Plaza Las Américas, 2nd Floor
