Ex-Gov. García Padilla, former first lady have separated

Former Gov. Alejandro García Padilla announced on Tuesday his separation from former first lady Wilma Pastrana.

“Some time ago Wilma and I took a different path in our relationship, although always united in the absolute love that we both feel toward our children and by the love we have for each other,” García Padilla said in a written statement. “Our children continue to be our main project in life and the love we feel for them gives us the strength to face the future.”

“I know that everyone understands how difficult this situation is for children, so we both ask that our privacy be respected,” he added. “These will be the only public statements that we will make about it. We appreciate, as always, the love of everyone.”

García Padilla served as governor of Puerto Rico from 2013 to 2016. The marriage produced three children: Ana Patricia, Juan Pablo and Diego.
