The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) San Juan Field Office announced on Wednesday the appointment of Samuel Dorta as the acting special agent in charge (SAC) for Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

The appointment follows the confirmation of the field office’s former special agent in charge, Joseph González, as island police commissioner.

With nearly two decades of service in the FBI, Dorta brings extensive experience in national security, counterintelligence, and criminal investigations. Throughout his career, he has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to safeguarding communities, dismantling criminal networks, and upholding the FBI’s mission with integrity and excellence, the agency said in a statement.

Dorta began his FBI career in 2005 at the Washington Field Office, specializing in counterintelligence. In 2018, he took on a leadership role as the supervisor of the Aguadilla Resident Agency, overseeing critical investigations into violent gangs, transnational organized crime, violent crimes, crimes against children, and public corruption. Most recently, he served as the assistant special agent in charge of national security and intelligence, where he guided strategic efforts to enhance security in Puerto Rico and beyond.

Reflecting on his new role, Acting SAC Dorta expressed both gratitude and determination: “I am honored to step into this role and continue the FBI’s critical mission of protecting the people of Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. I look forward to building on the strong foundation laid by Special Agent Joseph González and wish him the very best as he embarks on his new duties as Police Commissioner. The FBI remains committed to working collaboratively with our law enforcement partners, and I look forward to continuing that collaboration in this new capacity.”

Dorta’s leadership signifies the FBI’s ongoing commitment to protecting and serving the communities in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands with courage, vigilance, and integrity, the agency said.
