FEMA warns against grant scam on Facebook

By The Star Staff

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) recently became aware of a Facebook page fraudulently using the FEMA brand, claiming that the agency is offering grants for $1,500, the agency reported earlier this week.

This is not true.

FEMA advises survivors to avoid sharing personal or financial information online, or following links that promise offers for FEMA disaster assistance.

FEMA would never request anyone to respond to a post to receive money, the agency said.

If you suspect fraud, call the FEMA Disaster Fraud Hotline at 1-866-720-5721.
