Inter-American University of Puerto Rico Board of Trustees President José Muñoz Ávila announced earlier this week that Manuel Fernós would no longer serve as president of the institution, effective Tuesday.
Muñoz Ávila thanked Fernós for the years of service he provided to the university.
“On behalf of the governing body of the Inter-American, Muñoz Ávila announced the appointment of Dr. Rafael Ramírez Rivera as interim president of the institution, who has served for the past 14 years as chancellor of the Arecibo campus,” the university said in a written statement.
Fernós said Wednesday that he anticipated he would sue over his dismissal.
