Fiscal board to allow budgeted funds for congressional delegation election, but there’s a catch
By The Star Staff
The federal Financial Oversight and Management Board for Puerto Rico in a letter published Tuesday said it will allow budget funds to be used for a proposed congressional delegation election, but the budget plan will have to be amended.
In that regard, it provided deadlines for the budget revisions.
The oversight board gave Gov. Pedro Pierluisi Urritia and the island Legislature until March 26 to provide a revised budget, after which the board will send the governor a notice of violations by March 29.
The oversight board said it will complete the revision of the budget by April 8.
The congressional delegation vote was part of a law that called for a yes-no statehood vote last Election Day. The delegates are supposed to lobby in favor of statehood.
