The island Department of Education (DE) suspended classes at several schools Wednesday as a result of an outage at a LUMA Energy substation in Humacao.

Due to the lack of electricity service in the Humacao area, classes were suspended at the following schools: Petra Mercado, Bellas Artes, Agapito López, Libre de Música Juan Ponce de León and Ana Roque.

According to LUMA Energy: “LUMA personnel are correcting service interruption at Substation 2603 that affects sectors of Humacao, Yabucoa and Las Piedras, including the tourist complex of Palmas del Mar. Repairs will take until the afternoon.”

The estimate for the time of power restoration to the affected area was later revised to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
