The National Association of Medical Examiners (NAME) granted full five-year accreditation to the Puerto Rico Institute of Forensic Sciences (ICF) on Wednesday, validating the institute’s compliance with the highest quality standards in the operation of its Medical-Legal Research Division.

“This achievement demonstrates our commitment to the quality of our services and is a guarantee of reliability in the work of all pathology staff,” ICF Executive Director Dr. María Conte Miller in a written statement. “From now on, it is up to all of us to carry out the work and allocate the essential resources to maintain it.”

Conte Miller emphasized that accreditation requires the ICF to maintain new technological resources and hire expert personnel to meet the metrics established by NAME. She also emphasized that an audit is conducted annually to assess compliance with quality standards.

The certification is governed by Law 135-2020, which requires the ICF’s scientific and technical divisions to be accredited by recognized entities. The director indicated that the ICF’s strategic projects have demonstrated efficient management of allocated resources and emphasized that the achieved level of compliance has required effort and continuity.
