The New Progressive Party (NPP) board of directors unanimously approved on Thursday the nomination of former San Juan Mayor Jorge Santini as the party’s new secretary general, said party president and Gov. Jenniffer González Colón.
“The NPP is a grassroots movement whose main purpose is statehood for Puerto Rico, social justice, security, and progress,” González Colón said in a written statement. “These elements represent Jorge’s style.”
Clara Román also joined the board of directors as the party’s finance director, a position she had once held with a previous board of directors.
The NPP president reported that the party’s reorganizations continue islandwide, led by Oriol Campos, Ángel Cintrón, Aníbal Vega Borges\ and Felixavier Méndez, and including the selection of board members in municipalities such as Ponce.
She also announced that work to locate a new NPP headquarters is well underway, and properties have been identified for that purpose. The party’s calendar includes a radio-thon in June, José Celso Barbosa’s birthday observance in July, his anniversary in August, and the NPP convention in September.
