Newly confirmed Puerto Rico Police Bureau Commissioner Joseph González Falcón on Monday expressed his commitment to strengthening public trust, improving the training of agents and modernizing the institution with innovative security strategies.

“Being nominated as commissioner of the Puerto Rico Police is a great honor and a responsibility that I assume with the highest commitment,” González Falcón said in a written statement. “For the Police, this nomination represents an opportunity to strengthen public trust, improve training and provide our officers with the necessary tools to fight crime effectively.”

The former FBI agent stressed that his vision is focused on interagency collaboration, the use of advanced technology and the development of strategic investigations to dismantle organized crime at its roots.

“My plan is to ensure that the Puerto Rico Police is a modern, efficient institution aligned with the best practices in public safety, always with a focus on integrity and service to citizens,” he said.

González Falcón, who led the FBI office in San Juan, has a track record in security and intelligence that he said he will apply in his new assignment to strengthen the fight against crime and improve the public perception of the Puerto Rico Police.

In addition, the Senate unanimously confirmed Suzanne Roig Fuertes as Family secretary and Josué Rivera as secretary of Agriculture. They also confirmed Ciary Pérez Peña as Housing secretary by a majority, with the PIP delegation voting against. The upper chamber also unanimously confirmed Héctor Vázquez Muñíz as secretary of Recreation and Sports.
