Gov. Jenniffer González Colón on Monday denied that there is any negotiation regarding the appointment to lead the Office of the Women’s Advocate, and gave assurances that she will make her decision in due time.
“I don’t know where they get that from,” González Colón said at a press conference. “There hasn’t been any kind of negotiation with any appointment. Period. I have been making nominations and the Senate is attending to them in public hearings on Saturdays, so there hasn’t been any kind of negotiation or conversation about the appointment.”
Currently, Madeline Bermúdez Sanabria, who was appointed during the previous administration, remains in office as interim women’s advocate. The governor said she has already interviewed more than one person for the position and that her decision will be announced at the appropriate time.
Regarding the possibility that Gurabo Mayor Rosachely Rivera Santana is being considered for the position, González Colón ruled out that option.
‘I would have loved for her to be […], but she was overwhelmingly favored with more than 72 percent of the vote and she herself has told me that she will not let her people down,” the governor said.
Meanwhile, González Colón confirmed that she presented the nomination of former State Elections Commission chairman Francisco Rosado Colomer as a superior court judge, while assuring that the process “is completely independent of any other designation.”
