Hatillo Mayor José Ángel “Chely” Rodríguez Cruz confirmed on Wednesday his official resignation from the office he has held since 2005, due to health conditions,” Rodríguez Cruz said in a written statement. “For more than a year my health has been deteriorating. I have been diagnosed with various conditions and am receiving dialysis three times a week. This prevents me from continuing to perform my functions responsibly and full time, as my constituents deserve. That is why I have made the decision to resign from my position, which, thanks to the trust of my people, I have served in for approximately 18 years.”
“I extend my sincere thanks to my wife, Clara, my children, my father, brothers and other relatives who always supported me in all the efforts undertaken in favor of my people,” the mayor added. “In addition, a special thanks to all employees, municipal officials, the municipal legislature and all the people in general who were close collaborators for the success of our government management. Let my people know that I am leaving with my head held high, satisfied with having done the right things for the benefit of my beloved people.”
Rodríguez Cruz said he will submit his resignation letter in the next few days.
“Once again I thank the people and my relatives for their support and expressions of affection throughout this long process,” he said.
