Hundreds of people gathered over the weekend at the inauguration of the campaign committee of Evelyn Vázquez Nieves, who will seek to become the new mayor of Mayagüez in the November 2024 elections.
The former Mayagüez-Aguadilla District senator, who will soon face primaries, said she is more than confident that she will prevail in both electoral events.
“Our ears are perfectly tuned to the great needs that people have: safety on the streets and medical services, among many others,” Vázquez told the crowd at 6 Avenida Ramón Emeterio Betances in Mayagüez on Saturday night.
Vázquez said people are tired of the poor performance of the incumbent municipal administration and of hearing bad news about so many scandals that have tarnished the image of progress of “La Sultana del Oeste.”
“We propose a new dawn, full of faith and hope, with security, medical services, tourism and sports as priorities,” she said.
The former New Progressive Party (NPP) legislator had the unconditional support of NPP Senator and Vice President Thomas Rivera Schatz, Resident Commissioner Jenniffer González Colón and Tiody de Jesús, the widow of former Gov. Luis A. Ferré.
