Jadiel Sánchez, an outfielder for the Poetas of Juana Díaz, has been named Rookie of the Year for the 2026 season of the Double-A Superior Baseball League.
“I am incredibly grateful,” Sánchez said in a written statement. “This is news that truly leaves a mark on you. Considering the daily work one puts in, this really means a great deal.”
The 25-year-old player, a native of Arroyo, garnered 115 points in the voting conducted by sports journalists, play-by-play announcers, and commentators.
Luisiel Rivera of Maunabo finished second with 68 points, followed by Dilan Rosario of Gurabo with 65, Julio Cajigas of Vega Baja with 35, and Giulliano Allende of Maunabo with 20.
Antonio Brown of the Leones of Ponce won the award in 2025.
In his first season in Double-A, Sánchez batted .313 with 25 hits, 3 doubles, 4 home runs, 17 RBIs and 17 runs scored.
His performance helped Juana Díaz finish atop the South Section with a 13-7 record.
Sánchez received 28 first-place votes out of the 59 participants in the ballot.
“I dedicate this to my family and to the Poetas team; they have truly been right there with me throughout all these 20 games,” he said.
