‘Juanma’ pleads not guilty, to stand trial in gender violence case

By The Star Staff

Former boxer Juan Manuel “Juanma” López pleaded not guilty Tuesday to seven charges of gender violence after he was read the charges in Caguas Superior Court by Judge Ana Cruz Pérez.

During the hearing, Cruz Pérez accepted the plea and set trial for Nov. 19 at 9 a.m.

López is accused of physically and emotionally mistreating his ex-partner Andrea Ojeda Cruz, who in September used social networks to make the complaint.

In one video, the young woman accused him of physically assaulting her and published images showing bruises on her face.

López was arrested after Ojeda Cruz filed a formal complaint at the Caguas police station.
