More than 49,000 LUMA customers were without electrical service as of midday Tuesday



Caguas was the most affected area for electricity service outages on Tuesday, with 22,383 customers without power, followed by San Juan with 9,799 customers and Ponce with 8,618.

According to the latest available data on the status of energy service in Puerto Rico provided by LUMA Energy, the private operator of the island’s electricity transmission and distribution system, a total of 49,211 customers were experiencing interruptions in service as of 1:22 p.m. Tuesday.


The distribution of those outages varied in different regions, with areas such as Caguas being the most affected, with 22,383 customers without power, followed by San Juan with 9,799 customers, Ponce with 8,618 customers, Carolina with 3,360 customers, Arecibo with 2,838 customers, Bayamón with 1,611 clients and Mayagüez with 884 clients without service.


LUMA added that some interruptions, affecting only 282 clients, were related to planned improvement projects.
