A new omicron variant of the coronavirus has been detected in Puerto Rico, Health Secretary Carlos Mellado López said earlier this week.
“A new variant of omicron has arrived, B4.5,” Mellado López said in response to questions from the press on Wednesday afternoon. “He is a patient between the ages of 16 and 20 from the southern region who came from Kentucky to visit and left.”
“The patient did not require hospitalization, the symptoms were mild and no person with symptoms or tests was reported by the tracking system,” he added.
The Health chief noted that the people with whom the young man was in contact will be monitored for 10 days and must be quarantined.
