Gabriel Rodríguez Aguiló, the acting secretary general of the New Progressive Party (NPP), confirmed on Thursday the disqualification of two of the six candidates for mayor of Guaynabo.

According to press reports, the two are Samuel Almodóvar Lugo, who is deputy director of the Office of Recreation and Sports of the Municipality of Guaynabo, and radiologist-oncologist Marigdalia Ramírez Fort.

The disqualifications reportedly have to do with party regulations.

Still in the race are Edward O’Neill, Julio “Pipe” Abreu, Dana Miró Medina and Ricardo Aponte.

The NPP board of directors is expected to issue its nomination ratifications by noon on Friday.

The special election in Guaynabo will be held on Jan. 15.
