Playa Negra in Vieques named world’s 13th most beautiful beach
By John McPhaul
Vieques Mayor José “Junito” Corcino Acevedo announced Sunday that Playa Negra in La Isla Nena has been chosen as the 13th most beautiful beach in the world by the tourism magazine Big 7 Travel’s “The 50 Best Beaches In The World.”
“Once again Vieques stands out in the world,” the mayor said in a written statement. “The prestigious publication “Big 7 Travel,” which is dedicated to evaluating tourist destinations around the world, has just designated our Playa Negra as the 13th most beautiful on the planet. This is an important achievement that will help boost tourism to our island municipality.”
The mayor said the distinction will be used to promote Vieques as a world-class destination.
According to the publication, metrics such as tourist evaluations, comments on social networks and analysis of the magazine’s team are used, including visits to beaches.
This is the fourth year in which the magazine has published its list of the best beaches in the world.
“With this designation, the world proves once again that Vieques has the best beaches and people, a combination that will allow us to continue advancing in our economic program related to tourism, a sector that has enormous development potential in Vieques,” the mayor said. “It is time for the whole world to know what many have already highlighted, such as the magazine ‘Best 7 Travel,’ that in Vieques everything is better.”
“Our administration will use this designation in the marketing and promotional programs that we do, both for visitors from the Big Island, as well as those from abroad,” Corcino Acevedo said. “Little by little the world is getting to know Vieques as a premium destination.”
