By The Star Staff

Police Bureau Commissioner Antonio López Figueroa announced on Thursday that the island’s law enforcement agencies have established a security plan aimed at guaranteeing the right to free expression of organizations, along with the right of drivers to move freely. through the streets, during Friday’s planned demonstrations in San Juan on the occasion of International Women’s Day.

“The established plan aims to create a balance between the rights of all parties,” López Figueroa said in a written statement. “We will guarantee them the right to demonstrate and express themselves freely within a framework of respect for the rights of others. We will be working to minimize the impact on vehicular traffic and guarantee a safe environment for everyone.”

During the demonstrations on Ponce de León Avenue and the grounds of Hiram Bithorn Stadium in Hato Rey, highway patrol officers will be at key intersections to direct traffic and maintain traffic flow.

“We will establish perimeters to avoid or minimize traffic congestion on the main roads of San Juan such as expressways and other roads, so that they remain free of interruptions,” the police chief said. “However, we recommend that drivers use alternative routes to avoid delays in their commitments.”

“We trust that respect for our public order agents, who will be working long hours on the street for the well-being of all citizens, will prevail,” López Figueroa said.
