Policeman rescues bather in distress in El Condado

A policeman who was directing traffic on Dos Hermanos Bridge in Condado jumped into the water to rescue a tourist from drowning after the man was carried by the current Monday morning.
After being alerted by the son of the distressed bather the policeman, Abier Román, took off his uniform and threw himself into the water to rescue Anthony Scarp, 42, from New Jersey.
The rescue occurred at 10:30 a.m. while Román and other police officers were directing traffic on the bridge, and the son of one of the two distressed bathers approached officer Román to request assistance.
As Román assisted Scarp, the other bather managed to make it to shore alone.
