The Delta Phi Delta Fraternity and its Organizing Committee of the 62nd Edition of the San Blas Half Marathon announced on Thursday that the number of registrations for the sporting event to be held in Coamo on March 3 broke the record established in 2023 of 1,613 runners.
San Blas Half Marathon President Einar Ramos López expressed his pleasure with the support of the athletes who will participate this year and emphasized that the mass participation demonstrates the popular road race’s positive effect on the community and its relevance at a national and international level.
“We are living in a historic moment; we have the largest number of participants in 62 years and we continue to increase,” Ramos López said in a written statement. “In 2023 it was emotional to reach the number of 1,613 runners at the close of registration. Today, with 15 days left until registration closes, we announce that we have surpassed that number. At 6 o’clock in the morning on February 15, 2024 there was a record of 1,664 runners -- 555 women and 1,109 men. The growth in participation is a testament to the commitment and passion of the Puerto Rican sports community.”
“My thanks to the runners, teams and running clubs from across the island, to the international athletes and to the sponsors who make the race possible,” he added.
As indicated, registrations remain open at micarrerapr.com until March 1 at 8 p.m. and the packages with the runner’s kit can be picked up at the Delta Phi Delta Fraternity in Coamo from Feb. 26 to March 2 .
