San Germán says it’s ready for Port of Ponce tourists

San Germán Mayor Virgilio Olivera Olivera announced Tuesday that the southwestern municipality “is already more than prepared to give the warmest welcome to the more than 30,000 tourists who will be arriving at the Port of Ponce, starting tomorrow, Wednesday. May 7, 2025, on several trips.”
“We have designed a great work plan, hand in hand with our Office of Tourism and Economic Development,” he said.
The Royal Caribbean mega cruise ship Icon of the Seas, listed as the largest in the world, docks today in the Port of Ponce, where it will make two more stops later in the season (June 11 and June 25).
“We are talking about about 30,000 people who will be impacting our region,” emphasized Cristina Torres, director of San Germán’s Office of Tourism and Economic Development.
“We are going to impact tourists directly, at least this first time,” she added. “We will arrive at the Ponce Pier and there we will present our historical, romantic and architectural cultural offer.”

That's exciting news for San Germán! I remember visiting Ponce a few years back and being charmed by the architecture. I hope the influx of tourists brings positive economic impact and doesn't overwhelm the local community. Maybe to unwind after a long day of sightseeing, visitors could check out Slope Game – it's surprisingly addictive! I think it's a good suggestion as San Germán has some hills to climb.
