San Juan holding free Electronics Recycle-athon today

By The Star Staff

San Juan Mayor Miguel Romero Lugo extended an invitation to residents of the island capital to participate today in Electronics Recycling Day, which is being held at the community collection center of Pedrín Zorrilla Coliseum in Hato Rey, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., as part of National Recycling Day activities.

The Electronics Recycle-athon will be carried out in drive-thru mode and free of charge. Citizens are urged to use the entrance on Domenech Avenue to drop off their electronics.

“Recycling is a fundamental part of protecting the environment and conserving natural resources, so we urge all those who have technological equipment that they no longer use, that does not work, to take advantage of this extraordinary opportunity and recycle it at no cost,” the mayor said Tuesday. “This effort is part of the public policy that we are promoting, under the San Juan Avanza Por El Planeta project, with which we promote a safe and environmentally sustainable management system for equipment, as well as waste, emphasizing reuse, recycling, recovery and development of systems for the collection and adequate processing of electronic equipment and other materials.”

Equipment that can be recycled today at the Electronics Recycle-athon in San Juan:

1. Computers (laptops and desktops)

2. Mouses, UPS batteries, cables and keyboards

3. Cell phones and tablets

4. Headphones, digital TVs and monitors

5. Video game consoles, cable TV boxes and internet modems

6. Home printers, ink cartridges, security cameras and digital cameras.
