San Juan mayor makes key appointments

San Juan Mayor Miguel Romero Lugo announced six key appointments for his administration on Tuesday, which he said reaffirm his commitment to improving efficiency, transparency, and the well-being of the people.


“The team we present today comprises top-level professionals recognized for their leadership, responsibility, and results,” Romero Lugo said in a written statement. “With their experience and dedication, I am sure that we will continue to transform San Juan for the benefit of all citizens.”


The new officials, who the mayor said bring a wealth of experience and expertise to their respective roles, will assume their responsibilities immediately, focusing on strategic projects to transform and benefit the city and its inhabitants.


The appointed officials are as follows:


1. Israel O. Alicea Luciano: Appointed as the new vice mayor of San Juan, Alicea Luciano will be instrumental in coordinating municipal initiatives and representing the mayor on strategic matters. With experience as the city’s municipal administrator, he has a strong background in legal, budgetary and operational management.


2. Betsy Nazario Briceño: As the new director of communications and official spokesperson for the city, Nazario Briceño will leverage her extensive experience in public relations, crisis management and communication strategies to strengthen the connection between the municipality and its citizens.


3. José Luis Rodríguez Rodríguez: Rodríguez has been named the director of finance, bringing over 15 years of experience in both the public and private sectors. His previous role as deputy director of finance saw him lead key processes such as treasury, municipal revenues and fiscal digitalization.


4. Ana María Delgado Cotto: Delgado Cotto will serve as the deputy administrator of the government management and administration division, with a focus on fiscal modernization and efficient use of public funds. Her 26 years of experience include initiatives aimed at optimizing municipal revenues.


5. Héctor Magdiel Rivera Rosado: As the new director of recreation and sports, Rivera Rosado will utilize his 26 years of experience in education, sports leadership and administration to promote recreational and sports projects aimed at enhancing the quality of life for San Juan residents.


6. Alexander Pazo Rodríguez: Pazo Rodríguez has been appointed as the new director of information systems, tasked with leading the digital transformation of the municipality through the implementation of data centers and smart technologies such as Oracle Cloud and Smart City.


Romero Lugo expressed confidence in the abilities of the new officials, stating that their experience, leadership and dedication will be crucial in successfully addressing the challenges facing San Juan in the coming years. The ultimate goal of the appointments, the mayor said, is to establish the city as a model of efficient and accessible management for all its residents.
