San Juan Moda’s orange crush

By Iris Edén Santiago

Special to The Star

It is not your go-to color or a color for the timid dresser. But it is the color of the moment. Orange is bold, loud, playful and exciting. It made a strong comeback in 2019 and it’s definitely a huge trend in 2022.

Orange was seen in late 2021 and early 2022 in every major fashion week all over the globe. Among the designers who went for it in their spring and resort collections are Proenza Schouler, Etro, Versace, Max Mara, Carolina Herrera, Christopher John Rogers, Prada, Sergio Hudson, Christian Siriano and Valentino. Valentino used bloody orange in monochromatic retro looks that are just spectacular. Bravo!

The trick with sunset orange is to never let it seem Halloweenish or so muted that it looks boring even for fall. Translation: Go for the brightest tones and match it with contrasting colors like fuchsia, teal, electric blue, neon green or other shades of tangerine orange. Color blocking or monochromatic choices work best.

This vibrant shade is loved by celebrities like JLo, Zendaya, Kendall Jenner and Puerto Rican Oscar winner Ariana DeBose. Orange is also the theme color for San Juan Moda’s 16th edition.

San Juan Moda, showcasing the collections of 16 local designers, will take place June 3-10 at Isla Verde’s Fairmont El San Juan Hotel. For more information please follow San Juan Moda on social media.
