The Senate Appointments Committee, led by the president of the upper chamber, José Luis Dalmau Santiago, will begin evaluating the appointment of Elba Aponte Santos as secretary of the Department of Education today.

The public hearing, which will be broadcast through the Senate’s social networks, is scheduled for 10 a.m. and will be held in Leopoldo Figueroa Hall at the Capitol, according to a press release issued Sunday.

The senators will pass judgment on the designee’s qualifications and will evaluate her performance as secretary of Education during the first three months of the admin-istration of Gov. Pedro Pierluisi Urrutia.

Among other issues, Aponte Santos will be asked to explain the delay in the delivery of information that has been re-quested by the senators.

Faced with the agency’s failure to com-ply, on March 11, the Senate rejected a request from the Department of Education for an additional extension and on that occasion, the Senate president instructed his advisers to go to court “if necessary,” the press release reads.
