LUMA Energy on Monday afternoon reported a significant number of customers without electricity service in several regions of Puerto Rico.
According to the information provided by the private operator of the island’s electricity transmission and distribution system, at least 84,131 customers were without electricity, which represents 5.73% of total subscribers.
The most affected regions included Ponce, where 33,014 customers, equivalent to 15.54% of the region, were without service. In Carolina, 13,798 customers did not have electricity, which represents 9.74% of the customers in that region. Bayamón also faced significant disruptions with 11,760 customers affected, representing 5.43%.
Citizens were urged to report any electrical emergencies and to stay away from damaged electrical equipment.
