The Department of Health confirmed two new cases of monkeypox in Puerto Rico earlier this week, raising the number of diagnoses to 13.
There were also 12 suspected cases and 24 under investigation, Melissa Marzán, the island’s chief epidemiology officer, said in a written statement Sunday.
On Saturday, the World Health Organization declared the emergence of more than 2,000 cases of monkeypox in some 75 countries a public health emergency.
Marzán said in a statement that the department has trained personnel to reinforce surveillance of possible cases of monkeypox.
