The University of Puerto Rico (UPR) will participate today in Giving Tuesday, a global fundraising event that will be used to continue promoting and developing research projects, scholarships for students and special projects carried out by professors along with students.
“The University of Puerto Rico is distinguished by having a track record of academic excellence, its pillars being education, research and service to the community,” interim UPR President Dr. Mayra Olavarría Cruz said in a written statement. “To continue preparing professionals who contribute to the social and economic development of the country, we need the collaboration of everyone. Every donation we receive through initiatives such as Giving Tuesday is an investment in the future of Puerto Rico.”
“We call on our graduates and the general public to join this effort and make their donations,” she added, noting that anyone who wishes to donate can access the link www.upr.edu/donaciones.
Giving Tuesday is celebrated annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. Its main purpose is to highlight the positive impact of organizations and educational entities, among other groups, with the altruism and philanthropy of citizens.
