Wearing a mask required at mass events: Convention District Authority

By The Star Staff

Convention District Authority Executive Director Mariela Vallines Fernández announced Tuesday that the use of a mask will be required for those attending mass events held in the properties managed by the authority.

“Since the reopening of the facilities for the staging of mass events began, we have been successful in providing a safe and healthy environment for all attendees of the Pedro J. Rosselló González Convention Center, the Puerto Rico Coliseum and the Coca Cola Music Hall,” Vallines Fernández said. “Now that the Department of Health has reported an uptick in COVID-19 cases, we will be adopting the recommendation of mandatory mask use in activities that take place indoors.”

Vallines Fernández reminded the public that those attending concerts at the Choliseo still must show evidence of vaccination with two doses administered, or a negative COVID test administered within the previous 72 hours for unvaccinated people.

“On the days of events at the Coliseum, the Institute of Forensic Sciences will be open from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. performing free tests on unvaccinated people with a purchased ticket,” she added.

Vallines Fernández emphasized the efforts to achieve a safe environment for those who attend the authority’s facilities and that the economic recovery of the events and entertainment industry in general is continuing.

“We have been consistent in applying the recommended health measures to keep the events and entertainment industry active in this pandemic, and we have achieved that,” she said. “We request the usual cooperation of the public to be able to hold our events and to continue the sustained growth of this important sector of our economy.”
