By The Star Staff

The official reinauguration of the Plaza Fernando de Pacheco y Matos will kick off today and continue through this weekend.

“This emblematic square, which represents the history and identity of Yauco, has been completely rehabilitated for the enjoyment of all citizens,” Yauco Mayor Ángel Luis “Luigi” Torres Ortiz said in a written statement, adding that the activities run from today, Thursday, Dec. 14 at 5 p.m. until Sunday, Dec. 17 “with a cast of high-flying stars.”

Among the artists who will liven up the village party are El Gran Combo, Richard Nivar y su RikaSwing, Yolandita Monge, Danny Rivera, Joseph Fonseca, Bonny Cepeda, Samuel Hernández, Limite-21 and Jossie Esteban y la Patrulla 15, among others.

The Plaza Fernando de Pacheco y Matos is not only a place of meeting and recreation, but is also a symbol of resilience for the southern coastal town, the mayor noted. After the challenges of the earthquakes, the space in the urban center will reopen after having been revitalized with the aim of preserving the cultural heritage and providing a safe and welcoming environment for Yaucana families, Torres Ortiz said.
