Former Speaker of the Puerto Rico House of Representatives José Ronaldo “Ronny” Jarabo has been hospitalized and is currently in critical condition, according to his wife, Madeline Rolón, who shared the news with several media outlets this week.

At 81 years old, Jarabo is experiencing a relapse of the brain cancer he was diagnosed with just over a year ago.

Jarabo was previously expelled from the Popular Democratic Party (PDP) for supporting the New Progressive Party (NPP) incumbent mayoral candidate, Miguel Romero Lugo in last year’s election.

In light of his health crisis, the PDP has informed Jarabo that any sanctions or expulsion proceedings against him have been rescinded, as stated in a letter published on social media dated June 23.

Rolón reported that PDP Secretary General Manuel Calderón Cerame visited Jarabo in the hospital to read him a letter from the party’s president, Pablo José Hernández Rivera.

In the letter, Hernández informed Jarabo that there is no formal complaint against him.

Additionally, Hernández reassured Jarabo that even if a complaint had existed, it would have been dismissed as part of the refounding measures adopted in the party’s new phase.
