Anthonieska Avilés Cabrera to be released via habeas corpus, Aibonito judge rules.

Judge Cristina Córdova Ponce of the Aibonito Superior Court has granted a writ of habeas corpus in favor of Anthonieska Avilés Cabrera, a ruling that will allow her to be released from prison pending the start of her trial for the murder of teenager Gabriela Nicole Pratts Rosario in August 2025.

The ruling announced Tuesday was based on the fact that the defendant had remained incarcerated for more than 180 days without her trial having commenced, which constitutes a violation of her constitutional rights.

As a condition of her release, the court imposed specific terms -- including electronic monitoring and restrictions on her movement -- while the judicial proceedings continue; the proceedings are scheduled to begin on April 6 with jury selection.
