The Medical Services Administration (ASEM by its acronym in Spanish) on Wednesday inaugurated a free transportation system that will connect patients, employees and visitors with the main hospitals of the Medical Center and the Urban Train station.
The service, called “Medical Center Trolley for Its People,” will begin operating today, July 24, from 5:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m., seven days a week. Two van-type units with a capacity of 25 passengers will travel around the hospital perimeter, with stops at the Municipal, Pediatric, Industrial, Oncology, Adult University and Cardiovascular hospitals, and the Comprehensive Cancer Center.
“The new transport will be particularly useful on rainy days or when family members bring supplies to hospitalized patients,” Health Secretary Víctor Ramos Otero said.
The system will operate on a lease basis, which ensures continuity of service, since the supplier company will have to offer replacement units in case of maintenance.
“The Medical Center receives about 30,000 people daily, of which between 4,000 and 5,000 arrive by Urban Train,” ASEM Executive Director Regino Colón Alsina noted. “This service responds to that reality and the projected growth.”
The initiative is being financed with ASEM’s own funds and carried out in collaboration with the Integrated Transit Authority.
