Barranquitas Mayor Elliot Colón Blanco announced Tuesday the official opening of the central mountain town’s new Market Square (Placita del Mercado), an emblematic project developed through a collaborative agreement between the island Department of Agriculture and the Municipality of Barranquitas.

The initiative seeks to promote the local economy, support farmers and offer fresh and quality products to residents and visitors.

“In addition, it is a space for socializing and commerce for the entire community,” the mayor said.

Located in the heart of the urban center, at 68 Barceló Street, on the corner of Ubaldino Font Street, the Market Square will feature a grocery area offering meats, vegetables, eggs and miscellaneous items, all sourced from local farmers.

In addition, coffee and artisanal beverage stations will highlight the best produce from Barranquitas and the region.
