The member of the Natural Resources Committee of the U.S. House of Representatives Raúl Grijalva celebrated the beginning of the installation of the primary systems of solar panels and batteries financed by the Puerto Rico Energy Resilience Fund (PR-ERF).
The announcement was made by the Department Energy of the U.S. Jennifer Granholm, during her visit to Puerto Rico and her meeting with Gov.Pedro Pierluisi Urrutia.
“Today marks the beginning of the future of more reliable and resilient energy for hundreds of thousands of families in Puerto Rico,” said Grijalva in a written statement.
“The installation of new systems of solar panels and batteries will give energy security to low-income families and disabled people, alleviating the pressure on the electrical grid, especially in hurricane season,” he added.
The PR-ERF, established with $1 billion in federal funds obtained by Grijalva, Representatives Nydia Velázquez and Alejandra Ocasio seeks to improve the resilience of the energy grid in Puerto Rico through the installation of renewable energy and technologies sof energy storage for low-income and disabled residents.
