Authorities on Sunday morning found the body of Alexander Vega, who had jumped off a boat when he was struck by lightning while fishing on Toa Vaca Lake in Villalba the previous day.

Vega was with another 39-year-old man, a resident of Lares, when they were struck by lightning at around 3:20 p.m. on Saturday. The second man reportedly suffered burns on his hands, but remained conscious.

According to the National Weather Service, a 911 call was received regarding the incident. Two people were said to be on a boat near the fishing club, close to the dam.

Personnel from the Villalba State and Municipal Emergency Management Office, agents from the United Rapid Action Forces (FURA), and the Department of Natural and Environmental Resources participated in the search process.
