Bone marrow transplant program teams recognized for obtaining accreditation

Medical professionals who contributed to the Bone Marrow Transplant Program at Auxilio Mutuo Hospital obtaining accreditation from the Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy, an international certification in the field of cell transplantation and specialized medicine, were honored in the island Senate on Monday.

Sen. Ángel Toledo López on Monday recognized the work of the professionals who contributed to the Bone Marrow Transplant Program at Auxilio Mutuo Hospital obtaining accreditation from the Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT), an international certification in the field of cell transplantation and specialized medicine.

“The true contribution you have made to the development of medicine in Puerto Rico may seem commonplace to you because this is your job, but for us it seems like a daily feat, I would even say unattainable, because honestly every life that depends on what you do feels transformed in a way that only they can appreciate,” Toledo López said.

The honorees were Dr. Alexis Cruz Chacón, a specialist in hematology and oncology; Dr. Cristian Rodríguez Arocho, a specialist in hematology and oncology with a subspecialty in bone marrow transplantation and cell therapy; Dr. Carlos Bachier Cintrón, a specialist in hematology, oncology, and bone marrow transplantation; and Dr. Mariola Vázquez Martínez and Dr. Karla Feliciano Salvá, both hematologist-oncologists with subspecialties in transplantation and cell therapy. The administrative team and their collaborators were also recognized.

The recognition highlighted the collaborative effort between TCT Oncology, Hospital Auxilio Mutuo and the American Red Cross to achieve accreditation, which requires compliance with rigorous standards of quality, safety and clinical excellence.

The Bone Marrow Transplant Program at Hospital Auxilio Mutuo offers specialized services to patients with cancer and other complex hematological conditions. According to the motion, the accreditation strengthens Puerto Rico’s capacity to provide bone marrow transplant services in accordance with international standards.

“This achievement reaffirms the capacity of our health institutions to offer complex treatments with the highest levels of quality, safety and clinical excellence, contributing to the continuous development of cancer care and transplant services on the island,” states the congratulatory motion presented by Toledo.
