Cangrejeras stay undefeated, pull even with Caguas atop LVSF

The Cangrejeras of Santurce recorded their sixth victory of the season against no losses in the Women’s Superior Volleyball League (LVSF by its initials in Spanish) on Monday night, defeating the Valencianas of Juncos in straight sets.
With the win, last season’s league runner-up is now tied for first place with the defending champion Criollas of Caguas (6-3), with 17 points.
After taking a 2-0 lead in the match and with the third set tied at 13, Santurce went on an 11-0 run that led to a spike by Neira Ortiz to seal the victory.
The set scores were 25-21, 25-23 and 25-14.
Santurce dominated Juncos 49-33 in attacks, 10-6 in blocks, 65-59 in defense, and 17-15 in assists. Juncos was superior in service aces (2-1) and passing (34-30).
Andrea Rangel led the Cangrejeras with 14 points (12 attacks and 2 blocks), followed by Tamara Otene, Helena Grozer and Neira Ortiz with 12, 11, and 10 points, respectively.
Haley Bush had 16 points and Naya Gross added 11 for the Valencianas (2-7 with 6 points).
LVSF Week 5 play continues today with three matches: Santurce visits the Leonas of Ponce at Salvador Dijols Court starting at 8 p.m., Caguas travels to Manatí to take on the Atenienses (8:30 p.m.) and the Pinkin of Corozal play the Valencianas in Juncos (8:30 p.m.).
